• Participation is open to individual amateur and professional beekeepers.

• Submit a detailed report on the practice, not exceeding five pages.

• The report should explain the challenges faced before implementing the practice and highlight the key benefits and positive outcomes achieved through its application.

• Provide illustrative photos and a video showing the practice and its results.

• The practice must be new in the field of beekeeping and honey production, or it may be an existing practice that has been substantially modified in a way that has a positive impact.

• The practice must not have received any awards in other competitions worldwide.

• Provide supporting evidence for the results of applying the practice.

• The deadline for receiving reports is 1st October 2026.

Participants must complete the participation form and upload their submission, including the report, photographs, and/or video, through the link provided below.

Innovation Award Evaluation Criteria

1.     Practical applicability.

2.     Innovation and originality.

3.     Scalability and potential for further development.

4.     Scientific validity and supporting evidence.

5.     Materials used in the practice idea and their relationship with the environment.

6.      Impact of the practice on beekeeping and honey production in arid and desert regions.

7.      Provide results showing the impact of the practice before and after it was applied.

Competition Terms and Conditions:

• The photo must address one of the topics related to bees, honey, beekeeping, pollinators, or bee products.

• The photo must be taken by the participant and must not have received any previous awards worldwide

• Minor photo adjustments are permitted, including lighting, contrast, colors, and cropping, provided that the content is not altered and the main elements are not changed. Any edits or modifications made using artificial intelligence (AI) are not permitted.

• The photo must be of high quality and suitable resolution for printing and display. Accepted file formats are JPEG/JPG, PNG

• Participants may submit more than one photo, provided that the total number does not exceed three (3) photos.

• The organizing entity has the right to use the winning and submitted photos for media and awareness purposes, while preserving the photographer’s intellectual property rights.

• The photo must be free of any logos, watermarks, frames or added text.

Best Photo Award Criteria

1.    Relevance to the competition theme (clearly highlighting bees, honey, beekeeping, or

pollinators).

2.     Creativity and distinction (uniqueness of the idea, photography angle, and presentation of

the subject in an innovative way).

3.     Technical quality of the photo (clarity, lighting, colors, focus, and visual composition).

4.     Awareness or scientific value (the photo’s ability to convey a message or highlight the

importance of bees, honey, and pollinators)

• Submit a detailed report on the innovation, not exceeding 5 A4 pages.

• Provide illustrative photos and a video demonstrating the innovation and its results.

• The innovator or an authorized representative must be present on the first day of the Symposium to display and present the innovation.

• The innovation must not have received any previous awards worldwide.

• The innovation must be new in the field of beekeeping and bee products, or it must have been modified through substantial changes.

• The innovation must support the beekeeping sector in arid and desert regions.

• The deadline for receiving reports is 1st October 2026.

 Competition Terms and Conditions:

• The competition is open to university students, researchers, experts, and specialists in relevant fields.

• The poster must present a scientifically sound research study, an ongoing project, an innovative scientific idea, or a proposed solution related to the symposium topics, including solutions for arid environments, value-added products and packaging, bee conservation innovations, and smart beekeeping technologies.  

• The poster should include an introduction or problem statement, objectives, methodology or proposed approach, key results or expected outcomes, recommendations, and two to three relevant scientific references.

• The poster must be prepared in portrait orientation, measure 69 cm × 122 cm (27 × 48 inches), and be submitted in PDF format.

• A one-page A4 summary of the research study or project must also be submitted.

Participants must complete the participation form and upload a one-page A4 summary and a PDF copy of the poster through the link provided below no later than 1 October 2026.

Scientific Poster Evaluation Criteria

1.      Scientific quality, including the research design, methodology, clarity of the methods, and

strength of the results and recommendations.

2.      Relevance to the symposium topics and novelty of the topic.

3.      Originality of the researcher’s perspectives, approaches, or evidence.

4.      Comprehensiveness, coherence, and consistency of the content.

5.      Quality of writing, organization, and visual presentation.

6.      Potential impact on beekeeping, honey production, or food security.

7.      Clarity and effective communication of the results.

Through a guided tasting of selected Emirati honeys, participants will compare different botanical origins, develop sensory vocabulary and learn to identify desirable qualities and potential defects.

The workshop provides practical skills relevant to honey quality assessment, product development, competitions, marketing and consumer education.

Workshop Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand the basic principles and importance of honey sensory evaluation.

• Recognize the main sensory attributes used to evaluate honey.

• Apply a structured approach to evaluating appearance, aroma, taste, texture, and aftertaste.

• Develop appropriate sensory vocabulary for describing honey.

• Compare the sensory profiles of honeys from different botanical origins.

• Recognize common sensory defects and undesirable characteristics.

• Apply sensory evaluation techniques through guided tasting of selected Emirati honeys.

• Understand how sensory evaluation can support honey quality, differentiation, and value addition.

Drawing on professional experience from Europe, this workshop explores the practical use of honeybee products in integrative health. Participants will gain insights into three specialised applications:

• Eye honey therapy

• Beehive air therapy

• Propolis inhalation devices

The workshop also highlights the importance of bee-product quality and the potential role of apitherapy in supporting health and well-being.
