Dr. Andrew J. Lee is the Operations Director for the National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre, where he plays a critical role in growing the UK’s alternative protein ecosystem.
Trained in Engineering Biology and Biophysics, his early career considered biology as a programmable material to build physical tools and functional devices for a range of applications.
His portfolio expands more broadly across materials science, where he has significant experience in translating complex interdisciplinary research into real-world impact, having previously led the integration of over 400 academics across 16 disciplines at the Bragg Centre for Materials Research. This experience in supercharging interdisciplinary innovation communities is now central to his work at NAPIC.
At NAPIC, Andrew is focused on bridging the gap between fundamental research, commercial reality and consumer acceptance, applying his expertise to build an ecosystem that encompasses fermentation, plant-based, and cultivated protein technologies.
